Best Practice I (Academic Year 2026-27) - Holistic development and Experiential learning beyond classrooms

Objectives of the Practice

Holistic education is a learning philosophy that brings numerous benefits to students, teachers, institutions, and communities. Our institution has diligently followed this holistic development approach to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Enhancing Academic Achievement: We aim to improve academic achievement among our students by recognizing and catering to individual learning styles. We provide a platform for experiential learning, which enables students to grasp academic concepts more effectively. This personalized approach fosters a deeper understanding of subjects and leads to improved academic outcomes.
  2. Promoting Mental and Emotional Well-Being: We understand the importance of mental and emotional well-being in a student's overall development. Our institution provides a supportive environment where social and emotional learning is emphasized alongside academics. By nurturing the emotional intelligence of our students, we help them emerge with greater self-awareness, self-confidence, and a sense of social responsibility.
  3. Enhancing Problem-Solving Abilities: Holistic education encourages students to engage with real-world problems that exist in their communities. This approach cultivates strong critical-thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. Through hands-on projects, students learn how to gather, analyze, and report data effectively. They also gain valuable experience in collaboration, a skill that is highly relevant to their future careers.
  4. Improving Managerial and Communication Skills: Our institution provides a platform for students to interact and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This exposure is instrumental in enhancing their managerial and communication skills. As students learn to work with people of varying perspectives and experiences, they acquire the ability to coordinate effectively, resolve conflicts, and communicate with clarity. These skills are invaluable in both their personal and professional lives.
The Context

In our institution, we are deeply committed to fostering the comprehensive development of our students. We firmly believe that a strong foundation in the core curriculum is just the beginning; students also need to acquire a diverse set of skills to excel in their chosen career paths.

The Practice

Our approach to achieving holistic student development centres around active involvement in various associations and committees within the college. From their very first year at the institution, students have the opportunity to join these committees, starting as members. As they progress through their college journey, they have the chance to ascend the hierarchy and take on leadership roles in different departments, such as Marketing, PR, events, management, finance, creatives, and more, based on their interests and skills.

With increasing experience, students can eventually reach positions of greater responsibility, including Directors, Vice-chairpersons, and Chairpersons by the time they are in their third year. This hierarchical structure empowers students to take on leadership roles and develop their organizational, decision-making, and management skills over time.

Under the guidance of dedicated teachers who serve as mentors and advisors, students in these committees plan, strategize, execute marketing campaigns, secure funds and sponsorship, and conduct public relations activities to draw participants and attendees to various events and programs organized by the committees and fests.

This practical and hands-on approach not only enriches the students' academic experiences but also equips them with invaluable skills and leadership qualities that will serve them well in their future careers. It provides a platform for students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations, preparing them to excel in their respective career paths.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required

When our college resumed normal operations, students were excited to return to organizing events and fests with a renewed sense of enthusiasm. During the pandemic, students were constrained by the necessity for social distancing and remote work. They missed out on the essential aspects of physical interaction, including face-to-face discussions, teamwork, and networking opportunities. In this post-pandemic scenario, the success of our events continued to thrive, with students leveraging the advantages of physical interactions and on-campus activities. They were not only able to sustain the grand scale of events but also create an even more vibrant and dynamic atmosphere that was appreciated by the participation of eminent personalities from various fields.

It's the institution's social responsibility to ensure our learners grow up to be sensitive and responsive to the communities and societies they belong to. We inculcate in them social responsibility; that is, the education they get is not meant for mere self-development, but rather they are supposed to be change agents who would transform their communities, society, and the world.

This mission is further carried out through various platforms such as departmental activities, institutional initiatives, adoption of social causes by college festivals, and the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Social Outreach in the institution. We pursue the following objectives through these:

  12. These activities are meticulously planned in advance to provide learners with real-time learning experiences in structuring, participating, executing, and concluding initiatives.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required

Securing the necessary funds for planning and executing events remains a constant challenge, requiring meticulous financial management. We strive to maintain consistently high standards and the level of our activities, ensuring they meet the expectations of both participants and the broader community. However, the constraint of limited space poses a significant hurdle, restricting our ability to scale events to a grander level. Our planning and scheduling efforts need to keep pace with ever- evolving innovations and novel creativity. We are also committed to involving all learners from various courses and engaging non-teaching staff members to create a collaborative and inclusive environment for our initiatives. This dynamic interplay of financial, logistical, and creative challenges necessitates continuous adaptation and resourcefulness.
